M.A.D.M.E.N Odometer-Where we went in December

MADMEN didn’t put a lot of miles on in December but we still had good food and great times with fabulous people.

First Saturday was MINIS and Munchkins at MINI of Tucson. Gotta have coffee, donuts and talk before we headed to the Christmas party. We celebrated “Christmas Story” style at U-Like Asian Buffet. The gift exchange had some unique items, such as a “Chi Chi Club” T-shirt  and since the theme was “Christmas Story” there was even a leg lamp (but no Red Ryder BB Gun). The recipient of the leg lamp wasn’t really thrilled but their family loved it at a later party where it was stolen 3 times!

MINI Munchies was at Mama’s Pizza, where we haven’t been as a group since 2005 when I first met the MADMEN. Mama makes a humongous pizza and we need to go see her more often.

Second Saturday we got an invite from the Lamborghini group to meet up at the Multi Make Cars and Coffee Gathering. Yeah, there were Lamborghinis, Corvettes and other classic American cars, Porsches, an AC Cobra, and various other high dollar cars but MINIS rule and we made a good showing.

Christmas Day was was turkey, ham and all the fixin’s with our “MADMEN family” at the Raels. Some of us don’t have family locally (or don’t want to claim we do) and have adopted each other and that is what the holidays are about.

Last Saturday Breakfast was at Jerry Bob’s in Catalina. We had a large group, including new members, who mostly all joined us for the cruise up the highway. We stopped at the Ray Mine Overlook, then went on to Superior where we paraded through town, made U-turns in front of the local patrol officer downtown and did some shopping. Our next stop was Top of the World where Ralph and Betty entertained us at their “mountain cabin” and provided a delicious lunch of grilled sausages, s’mores and more visiting. Bacon for breakfast, sausage for lunch and visiting with MINI peeps. Of course it was a fabulous day.

January is the start of a new year and the beginning of our 2014 adventures. First Saturday will be MINIS and Munchkins at MINI of Tucson.

My MINI Has the Munchies will be Jan. 9 at Beyond Bread on Campbell.   6pm

Friday Jan. 10 we leave for A MINI Weekend Alamogordo, where we’ll be touring the White Sands Missile Range Museum, White Sands National Park and other places in the area.

Jan. 11 is Multi Make Cars and Coffee for those not going to Alamogordo.

Last Saturday is the Santa Cruz Car Nuts Car Show. We’re going to have breakfast at Sunny Daze Cafe before we hit the road for the car show and spend more time at the show this year. Lunch will be grilled burgers at the car show, or go into Tubac for lunch and shopping
