Sooie, pig, pig, pig, pig! It was off to the Hog Pit on Tanque Verde Road for My MiNi has the Munchies on October 9th. We invaded their back room and then promptly got in trouble for trying to manage the fans and climate control ourselves. Oops! But we did have a good turnout that enjoyed a dinner of BBQ smoked on location and beans and all the fixin’s.
The weekend of October 25th was a busy weekend for our MiNis. The last Saturday breakfast was at Teresa’s Mosiac Cafe located up on a hill just off of Silverbell Road. Their gorgeous mosaic tables are hand-made and each is unique. We enjoyed the Mexican food and excellent service.
Then our MiNis got the stripes scared off of them as we spent a night in haunted Bisbee, Arizona. After our breakfast at Teresa’s, we motored down (including a little side pre-trip to drop off a non-Mini vehicle) to the once booming copper mining town. We had some time before dinner so our members scattered to do their own thing. Some took a jeep tour, some took the mine tour, some went shopping and antiquing, and who knows what others did considering we had 2 couples celebrating their wedding anniversaries on that day! Dinner was at the never disappointing Cafe Roka in downtown Bisbee. 24 members enjoyed the 5-course meal on third floor. After that, some members took a guided walking ghost tour of the most haunted spots in Bisbee. It was dark, but not stormy, and the stories told by the guide were interesting. Bisbee knows how to rock a party and later that night there was one in front of the Copper Queen hotel. Never fear though, everyone survived the night and made it back to Tucson!

The Happy Rooster opened up just for us on September 11th because they knew My MiNi had the munchies and because one of our members, Suzanne, had an inside connection. All of the walls, floor to ceiling, were painted with humorous depictions of chickens, some in saloon girl get-ups and bright red lipstick, some in western garb complete with sidearms and 10-gallon hats. We got to order whatever we wanted off the menu and that made us Happy, Happy just like the rooster.
Our overnight trip this month, on the weekend of September 20th, was up to Mt. Graham. Our newest co-chair, Stephen Campbell, got inspired and lead our little band off MiNis off pavement (oh, my!!) for about 7 miles. We’re happy to say that everyone and all of their MiNis survived. Dinner was at the La Paloma restaurant. That night, some of the members chose to camp out at Roper State Park but others decided that a motel would be more to their liking! Our return trip was the back road through Fort Grant. Wine tasting in Willcox caught the attention of some of our members. Another stop at Apple Annie’s produce stand and the orchard was in order as some members picked up tasty fresh vegetables to bring home to Tucson.
Oui, oui! Bet you didn’t know that MiNis can speak French. Well, they don’t really but we enjoyed our last Saturday breakfast at Mimi’s Cafe on Oracle near the Tucson Mall. We had a great turnout and our youngest MiNi member, Lilly, even joined us a the big people’s table.

Ever have a hankering for BBQ? Well, our MiNis did! That’s why our dinner this month on August 14th was at Bubb’s Grub way up on North Oracle Road. Good thing MiNis like to motor! Because it was a little out of the way, our turnout was lower than normal but those who joined us enjoyed their dinner and the restaurant’s western decor.
Our weekend overnighter on August 23rd was to Silver City, New Mexico. We motored out on Saturday morning and landed in Silver City for the night. After we dropped our things off at the motels, we gathered for dinner at Billy’s Wild West BBQ & Steakhouse. Again, with the BBQ, yummy! The next day, some of our members took in the car show and drooled all over the examples of fancy wheels. Don’t worry, we wiped the drool off before any of the owners saw it. Other members went sightseeing and visited museums, local shops, and the “Big Ditch” a.k.a Main Street. The main street in Silver City was washed out so many times by massive floods that they actually left it as a Big Ditch, made a park out of it, and quit trying to rebuild main street.
Our last Saturday breakfast was at Laverna’s on the south side of town. We had a huge turnout for this breakfast and packed into the back room to experience some of the biggest, flippin’ flapjacks that people have ever seen! Both the service and food lived up to the MiNis expectations and thanks to Herb Ross for getting that arranged for us.

It’s the dog days of summer and the MADMEN went to the dogs! On July 10th, My MiNi had the Munchies at Sentinel Peak Brewing Company. We had a good turnout and some new members joined us for dinner. The locally brewed beer was tasty. Unfortunately, while they knew the MiNis were coming, the service was a little disjointed. That left some of our MiNis still hungry and they motored elsewhere to get dinner.
On July 19th, we attended the “Dog Days of Summer” at MINI of Tucson where the dogs up for adoption put on their cutest faces and looked up at us expectantly with big puppy-dog eyes. It must have worked because one of our members took home a Lil’ Bit. Congratulations! We put our donations (food, supplies, leashes, blankets, etc.) in the boxes and then motored up the Catalina Highway (whee! MiNis love the twisty roads) to Mt. Lemmon to meet up with the D.R.P. for the Dynamic MiNi Collective election results.
The last Saturday breakfast on July 26th was at the Hungry Fox. After breakfast, we motored over to MINI of Tucson to load up all the “Dog Days of Summer” donations. It’s surprising what you can fit in a MiNi! The Humane Society and Pima Animal Control Center were recipients of the donations and were thrilled to see all the MiNis arrive with all the booty collected.
