I just saw on this morning's news that the U.S. Dept. of Transportation is suspending the cash for clunkers program effective yesterday Thursday July 30. Apparantly, its been so successful so far that the fund created to fund the program has run dry already. The fund also wasn't created propertly to sustain the program long term. US DOT said that contracts entered into prior to yesterday will be honored, but any cars purchases after yesterday may not or will not receive the rebate until a funding solution can be found.
Its kinda like the hybrid license plates AZ DOT issued. The program only allowed the issuance of 10,000 license plates. Once that number was reached, the program terminated. Which is why you see some Prius with a hybrid plate and some without the hybrid plate.
