I'm kinda suprised they use the "Cooper" name on it. It should be the MINI Clubman, not the MINI Cooper Clubman. I'm guessing the term "Cooper" origionally came from "Coupe", which the clubman is definaely not.

Let me educate you a little here. Not all MINIs or Minis are Coopers. Just as we know that not all Coopers are Cooper S's. The very early Minis weren't eve Minis, they were Austin Sevens and Morris Mini-Minors, then they became both Austin and Morris Minis, then John Cooper got involved. That is where the Cooper name got attached to the Mini. The Coupe as you call it was actually called a Saloon in the UK.

For both the classic Mini and the New MINI, the Cooper is a trim and performance level. In the US they only sell new MINI Coopers or the Cooper S. In Europe there is a lower entry level MINI known as the MINI One, also the MINI D which is diesel powered.

So in fact the MINI Clubman that Alexis saw was not really a Cooper but a Cooper S.

I would imagine that in Europe there will be MINI Clubman, the Cooper Clubman, and the Cooper S Clubman along with a MINI D Clubman.

The classic Mini Clubman was not a wagon or larger version but had a different front end that was more square, that did not take off and they went back to the rounded front end most of us are familiar with. I am surprised they didn't call this new one a Countryman that would have been more keeping with the longer versions of the Mini and the wagon style name they used on the classic.

Thank you for your time.
:D

You and Kyle would have a good time discussing the history Barney. He wrote a 5 page college essay on the them - way back to Sir Alec Issigonis and his drawing on the paper napkin! (he got an "A" on it :thumbs-up: - even had a PowerPoint with pics)

Thanks for the info Barney, I thought John Cooper got involved after the car was named and it was purely coincedence that the names were spelled the same (think I read something to that effect in a magazine somewhere, not that you can ever believe anything that gets printed in those anymore  )

So if "Cooper" is a trim/perfomance level and not a Model, then all of our Titles and registrations are wrong

Will the vehicle registrations for the Clubman still just say "Cooper"? :?

(yes, I know. I start asking stupid questions when I get really bored  )
