Taking a road trip to CA any suggestions?

Hello everybody! Well I'm making the trek up the california coast real soon(leaving monday) Not sure how far north i'm going. I know its the wrong time to go. But I must go on a road trip. So I know many of you fellow mini folk travel quite a bit. Any suggestions of sights to see or things to do? I was planning on sticking to hwy 1 on the way up and hitting the mid section of cal. on the way down. also where are the fun driving roads in CA?

My Mom and Dad have been to CA in the MINI, I bet they'd have some suggestions...? Mother? Any 'advice'?
