Official AMVIV Thursday Caravan Thread

Discuss upcoming and old DMC events

Postby Louie B. » Sun Mar 21, 2010 5:42 am

OK, I had several people coment to me today that I need to make the "official" anouncement (even though this is not a DRP event  )

So here it is:

Meet @ the second Shell in Wickenburg.

There is one group that is leaving Wickenburg at 8:00am sharp and will be pushing through at a "steady" pace to make good time to Vegas. Be gassed up and ready to go before then if you want to join this group. They don't want to be held back.

Those who want a more leisurely pace can roll out closer to 9:00 with the straglers who didn't make it there by 8. If you're not @ the Shell by 9:00 Gassed up and ready to go then you're on your own.

Just so everyone knows, I may just fall into that "on your own" category so don't be waiting there for me to show up and lead the pack.

Is this a good plan for all involved? If so I'll change my first post to say this.

To Cooperesque: I know I-17 north thru Phoenix during rush hour isn't too bad...but getting from there to Wickenburg...anyone else able to answer that question.

As for me, what route are these caravans taking? I think there are a couple of ways to get to Vegas from here and I've only been one...thru the dreaded dam! I have heard rumors of big construction at the dam...can anyone give me a brief idea of the alternate route? I would like to be part of the second caravan out of Wickenburg but not sure how long it will take us to get back from the dog hotel down by the airport.

I would suggest avoiding Hoover Dam and going through Bullhead City/Laughlin instead. That is the route I took last October. Google Maps says it is 25 miles longer but the note below from ADOT says to expect at 30 minutes to 1 hour delays going over the dam.

Louie, the 9 AM sounds good to us, so we will be in that group.

Had a not so good experience with a poorly repaired pot hole that took out one of my wheels and it got bent pretty bad...thanks ADOT...
Now I am awaiting my new wheel and hope it gets here on Wednesday. The strut mount has been replaced already, and new shoes on Nemo!

I suggested the 8 AM time out there since nobody was commiting to a leave time from Wickenburg.

For those coming from Tucson, remember the Phoenix traffic can be a real pain. My recommendation is to take the 10 West to loop 303. Then take the 303 to US 60 towards Wickenburg. See ya.

Yeah, Jan told me about the wheel, that's a real bummer, hope you get a replacement in time. If not, maybe someone still has a set of stock wheels laying arround they can loan you.

Click me for Wickenburg to Las Vegas, via Laughlin (no Damn Dam route)

Sounds like the alternate longer route is the one to take... But then again it would give me a chance to sit and figure out my new camera...

Dam wasn't realy a problem at 5:00pm today. much better than it was the last couple years! I only lost about 20 minutes from what my GPS told me I was going to do.

Yeah, I'm sure if you go through before 7-8AM or after 4-5PM, they won't be blasting, but during regular hours is when we've heard its the worse.

Sad that this will be the last AMVIV over the dam. Next year the bypass will be open!
