DRP - Bearizona and camping September 7th-8th

Postby azminiman » Tue Jul 23, 2013 4:31 am

This is a great place if you have never been. This is a trip that has the option of overnight camping.

Bearizona (http://bearizona.com) is a fun "drive yourself through a wildlife park" just 30 miles west of Flagstaff. The road through the park is light gravel but smooth and is MINI friendly. After a couple hours at Bearizona, we will head to the KOA campground for some camping. If you choose to head home, this is a nice easy day trip.

For those that are camping, KOA (http://circlepineskoa.com) has plenty of tent and cabin spots available . The sooner that you make your reservation, the better for getting a spot since it will be great weather. There is a large multi tent site spot that would keep a lot of us together in the same area. On the map they are the spots T80 A-H and T70 A-D. But all the sites are not far from each other, so pick are that looks best for you. Some sites have power and water available so ask when you reserve if that is something that you want. Sites are based on 2 person occupancy, but most sites will fit 2 tents so 4-5 people can be at each site ($5 charge for each person after the first 2). The cabins start at $68 and have nothing but beds and a table (you bring your own linens), and go up to 2 full rooms with all the amenities. To reserve, call 928-635-2626 and ask for the "Ryan group" so that we are all placed near each other.

Our thought for dinner was having a pot luck. We will bring burgers and everyone can bring one other thing to share. We want to keep it simple since we will all be limited on room in the cars. More to come as this gets closer.
Maybe Sunday breakfast in Williams.

So if you are interested, I suggest you make reservations soon to get the choice spots.
This will also get posted on FB site.

Thanks for the info . We rented a cabin at the campground. Also invited Suzanne Lipke to join us. Hope she can make it!

Bearizona will be giving us a group discount if we meet 15 or more people. So to those that are sitting on the fence about going, please decide so that I can contact the coordinator and get our discount set up!

Thanks!

The weekend is coming! So here is the plan:

Meet at Starbucks at Happy Valley and I17 at 8am. It is just east of I17 in the Lowes parking lot, directly across from Lowes.

We will be departing Starbucks at 8:30 and head north. We will make a pit stop Chevron in Munds Ranch to stretch/gas/bathroom break. This leaves us 45 min more till Bearizona.

Arrival will be 11:30. We will do the driving section first, then walk through part. There is a food bar in the walking section, so you can grab a snack lunch there or bring something with you to snack on.

We will leave Bearizona around 2ish and head to KOA, get checked in, set up camp, and plan on 5:30 dinner.

Sunday morning will be departing as you please, but we can plan Saturday night on who may want to go into Williams for breakfast.

The camp ground has a indoor pool, so bring your swim suits!

Lastly, don't forget to bring your radios with you. Channel 7, sub channel 21.

Overnight trip to the Bearizona wildlife park and camping at KOA.

As of 9/4/13, we are at 21 people confirmed, I'll update the list immediately if anybody else RSVP's so we know how much food to bring.
