DRP - Sat Oct 20 - Car Show at The Pavilions

Postby danjmcs » Mon Oct 15, 2007 10:13 pm

This Saturday is our monthly meet-up at the weekly car show by the McDonalds at The Pavilions in Scottsdale. No reserved spots this month as they want a guarantee of 25+ cars now to hold a club spot as the weather cools off and it gets busier out there, so just look for MINIs!

The weather should be beautiful, forecasted highs in the mid 80s and lows in the 60s. Try to arrive between 3:00 and 4:00 to get a good spot. We cannot save spaces after 4:00, but if you do show up later, we will definitely try to find some room for you!

A little history I found on this Car Show:

NOW IN IT'S 17TH YEAR, the longest running weekly continuous classic car show in the United states. You are free to visit us at the McDonald's located at the Scottsdale Pavilions Shopping center on Indian Bend and the 101 freeway, Scottsdale, Arizona. BRING YOUR CAR!

It all began back in April 1990. Two of Kramer's employees were driving through Mesa when they noticed a group of classic cars parked outside a Carl's Jr. Curious, they stopped to investigate. A friendly conversation with the car owners revealed that they were about to lose their parking-lot privileges. The "Rock 'n' Roll McDonald's" in Scottsdale seemed like the perfect new destination for the classic cars, and a Valley tradition was born.

On the very first Saturday night, there were maybe 10 or 12 cars. The second week, there were 20. By the fifth Saturday, there were a hundred cars," says Mark Kramer. Now an average night brings in anywhere from 250 to 500 cars and up to 150 motorcycles. "The neat part is that when this started, it was just the car owners and their significant others," Kramer notes.

There are no set hours for the event, but vehicles usually start to arrive around 4 p.m. Cars come and go throughout the evening, and people start to head home around 9 p.m. McDonald's area supervisor Chico Espinoza adds, "We always have the real diehards who come just every single week around noon and stay until the end." If you love cool old cars, you'll understand why.

Well, as things are sceduled now... yes. My flight is booked to come back friday night.

-However-

This job is a mess! and everything that can go wrong, has been. There is a slight chance that I'll end up needing to stay an extra couple days to finish up. I worked a 15hr day yesterday to try to get caught up, and will probably end up putting in a couple more of those by the end of the week. :?

-So, can't make any promises at this point.
