A select group of MADMEN made an adventurous all day trip to the "Heart of the Rocks" in the Chiracahua National Monument this past weekend.
Snow and ice, closed roads ("WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING ROADS!"), did not deter this intrepid band of Miniacs from having a great time. Yes, we actually got out of our MINIS and hiked with backpacks, Trek poles and cameras for nearly 8 hours.
The Monument ( National Parks are created by a Presidential Order, National Monuments by an act of Congress ) is a treasure to behold: Riparian White Pine forest near the base, craggy peaks and rock formations at the summit. This is genuine wilderness. We had a family of white tail deer approach within 10 feet.
Those who attended shall remain nameless, but did include 2 podiatrists, a veterinarian, a show dog judge, a creator of cardboard vehicles and a very handsome and talented Mini aficionado.
Special thanks to the "Scout Master" and the inventor of Moleskin!
