Why is it considered necessary to nail down the lid of a coffin?

So that a root doesn't cause the lid to open and allow the body to sift to the surface during a flood. That and so you can't get out when I put you in one...

(gun idea didn't work...already tried that one)

..if a tree falls and only one person is around, but the tree falls on them, do they hear it? or does the lumberjack who cut it down get 10-life due to negligence?

Well..if there's only one person around. Then chances are the lumberjack didn't hear the tree falling. He instead heard the chainsaw hitting the ground, then spinning around to saw at his own ankles. From there all he heard was his own screams.

There are 10 candles in a room. 2 go out when you are running around after that hostage you took. Another candle goes out while you are taping their hands to a seat. To avoid wind blowing anymore out, you shut the window and go into the next room to torture the gold cooper owner. Provided that none of the other candle flames get blown out, how many are there the next day when you go in to clean up the mess she made in her hopeless struggle to get free?

none. she burnt the place down kicking over the ornate oriental chest nearby with the last 4 candles in a fantastic gold and silver candelabra your later grandmom gave you on your 15th wedding anniversary, but that was before you wife cheated on you and left you with 8 kids and you're pretty sure 6 of them aren't even yours, as they look more like your brother than you, but he was killed in the fire, so you cant ask him for money, btu you might ask his new wife as you've been sleepingwith her anyway.
