Costco....tires...?

Postby MINImama » Fri Feb 20, 2009 4:58 pm

So I was at Costco last night to look at some tires to replace my run flats. I knew what I wanted, but when I told the guys I had a MINI, they said I would have to order run flats. I told them I want to get rid of my run flats, and they said that Costco has a policy of only putting the same tire on a vehicle as what the manufacturer originally put on the car - said it has to do with some kind of liabiilty.... WHAT??? Has anyone else encountered this?

From what I've gathered on NAM, COSTCO has a CYA policy that is inconsistently followed across stores and states. Basically, they wish to avoid any liability should you be stranded due to a flat tire. Some reports indicate they'll sell you non-run flats if you can demonstrate you have a spare. Are you in an MC or MCS?

I'm an '08 MCS.

That was kind of their story... 'what happens if you get a flat?' That's what I've got AAA for, and MINI roadside assistance, and family and friends all over town that can help out in a pinch, and a spare at home. It just seems like a totally ridiculous 'policy.'

Just go to Discount Tire. They won't jerk you around , and will match any other tire stores price in town. 8)

I agree with Jeff.. plus, they are all over town,, so you are never far from a repair. Just be sure to get the replacement policy. Small price to pay for that nail you know you will get in that area they say isnt repairable.

Any recommendations of what you like? Anything in particular to stay away from?

I love my tires! They are Yokohama S Drives. I just noticed that on my receipt it says they were put on a 1997 Ford Mustang GT.
