JCW Stage 1

Postby SuperGreg » Sun Apr 26, 2009 12:15 am

Hello everyone, newbie here :D
I have a 2008 PW/PW MCS by the way.
So it looks like I can get the JCW stage 1 for $2,150 installed at MINI North Scottsdale. Good price? Is it really worth it?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

Welcome Greg

I can't speak for the R56 JCW packages don't know much about them. I will let those with more knowledge speak.

For $2100 I think you could put on some aftermarket parts that would yeild a heck of a lot more performance!

My initial thoughts are about keeping my warranty in tact, and also having MINI warrant these mods. In addition, the ONLY way to get a higher performance ECU flash is via this kit. I also love the sound of the JCW exhaust

Welcome Greg

Good idea to worry about the warranty, MNS gets pickey about that.. We have one of each...the JCW car is definatly faster.. Is it worth the $$.. that will depend on who you ask..you will get every possible senario and option possible as answers.. The JCW exhaust sounds nice, especially if you remove the resinator ( will not effect warr ). There is not a lot of choice out there for R56 ECU upgrades yet.. so the factory JCW is most likely the safest bet for now. I have only done intake and exhaust on my R55 and do notice a differance.. but not like the JCW. MINICDN just added the JCW to his,,, and he is :D :D

There is a lot you can do to the car for the 2100 with out hurting the warranty... the biggiest being the suspention.. then the intake and exhaust.. But I will say, the JCW is quick off the line..

Thanks Mark, I appreciate your response. I'm still on the fence.
I'm starting to lean towards just doing the exhaust right now. The car is really fast as is.
You mention suspension upgrades.
So if YOU had $2k to spend where would you spend it first? I don't think I need sway bars etc..., but tires or bushings that reduce torque steer might be cool :)

If it were ME I would focus on the exterior of the car. Lower it, aero kit, wheels, etc. You already HAVE a fast car, now make it LOOK fast. :D :D :D :D :D

Ok, fair enough. The budget is only $2k though. What first? Aero kit is too expensive. I would have no idea how to lower it.

Ok, please be more specific. What should I change?
Thanks in advance

Personally, Id make the jump to coilovers. Adjustable ride height, adjustable camber, toe, compression and rebound... get a Rear Sway Bar and some endlinks if necessary... solid. dont do bushings until you have to. the labor alone will kill you. not fun.

as stated above, coilovers are the best.. but, $$.. but worth it if you are going to track it.. if not, just lowering springs and sway bar will do well, and will have money left over for exhaust.. best suggestion is to come to a upcoming club meet, and look at the cars. see what seems best for you.. there is a lot of experiance and knowledge around the club..
