DMC - AdoptAHighway - Payson Spring Cleanup 10 - Sat Apr 24

Postby Louie B. » Mon Apr 05, 2010 5:55 am

It's that time again, starting our Third year with the Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup to the DMCs Mile Marker up on AZ-87, North of Payson!

Image

Thanks to Suzanne Lipke for putting in the work to get our sign in place 2 years ago and handling the safety class requirement and organization with ADOT! And thanks to Michele Goodman for continuing the hard work and geting this year's cleanup orginised.

Click hereto see the actual location of the sign on a map.

I would suggest you wear boots or some type of high sneaker, long sleeve shirt or jacket, maybe a hat, since it WILL be cool up there in the morning, but should warm up a bit later in the day. We will provide bottled water, so you may want to bring something other than that if you want it. ADOT is providing the safety vests, tools, bags, etc.

Dan J will reserve his companies Dodge Durango, so that we can more easily shuttle people to the work positions, this worked real well for the Fall event in October 2008 in getting us started and finished up a bit quicker and safer.

Those coming from the Phoenix area, we will meet at 8AM at the Baja Gas Station on the SouthEast corner of Ft. McDowell Road and the AZ-87. Departure time, 8:15AM Sharp, so please be gassed up and ready to go. As was mentioned in the threads for the Previous events, you should probaby gas up somewhere else before meeting up, as Bajas prices tend to be on the high-end, this just made a good central meeting point.

10180 N Fort Mcdowell Rd
Fort Mcdowell, AZ

Please check the freeway closures to make sure they don't impact you making it to the meet-up location on time.

It's approximately 70 miles from the Baja to Payson, where we'll stop on the North side of town for a bathroom break at the Maverik location below.

715 N Beeline Hwy, Payson, AZ

After a quick stop and break, we will head north out of Payson, approximately 30 miles and proceed past our mile marker and will be parking at the Long Valley Cafe, which is right on AZ-87 at mile marker 290, approximately a mile north of where our mile marker is.

We should arrive at the Cafe at approximately 10:15, so those coming from Flagstaff or areas North, should meet us here if they aren't meeting us in Payson. Michele has some safety items she has to go over with everyone, and then we want to carpool back to our work area and be working by 10:30.

We expect to be completed in less than 2 hours, hopefully by noon, when we'll then return to the Cafe for lunch.

After lunch we'll head back down the hill and stop in Pine for some dessert!

Please RSVP by replying here in this thread or send me an email at thumpu77@hotmail.com ASAP so we can get an accurate count, thanks!

25 views and no RSVPs?? C'mon folks!! Let's see those hands being raised!!
We spend a lot of time motoring the highways, byways, & backroads of our beautiful state, and this is our way of giving back, not to mention a fun day spent with friends, and likely the last cool weather we'll feel for several months.
And, if you're the kind who must be bribed (tsk, tsk), there will be PRIZES!! :D :D

Will try to be there for this worthy cause on my grandma's birthday. Hopefully nothing will pop up and get in the way. I love this area of AZ, and have driven through here *many* times. Haven't taken Nudnik up there yet, though.

C ya,
Dutch

C'mon folks... a little over a week to go. It's not too late to RSVP. :D
If you're planning to attend, please speak up and be counted here. We need an accurate head count for Long Valley Cafe.

Hey, folks. Just a quick heads-up for anyone attending this event. Please make sure you check out this thread on Friday evening for any last-minute updates.
The weather forecast for Happy Jack, AZ is calling for scattered thunderstorms on Friday, but Saturday is supposed to be sunny, with a daytime high of 59 degrees. We are not expecting any problems, but to be on the safe side, I will check in w/ Denise at Long Valley Cafe on Friday just to make sure we're not going to be rained out.
Thanks! :D
