MADMEN ODOMETER-February

The MADMEN did some traveling in February.

We started off by sharing our love for our cars and our fellow MADMEN by celebrating MiNi Munchies at Jason’s Deli on Valentine’s Day. The candles and roses were missing from the tables but the food and the company more than made up for the lack of “holiday atmosphere.”

That was just the warm up for President’s Day weekend which was AMWAR- A MiNi Weekend Abduction Roswell. Five cars and nine potential abductees bravely headed for the UFO Museum    in Roswell where we were amply protected with tin foil hats and matching event shirts. We did cause a little stir as we posed for our photo ops on the main street in Roswell. In addition to the museum exhibits and out of this world art work we got to see the preparations for a wedding in the museum and then saw the wedding party as they entered the “chapel”. The museum gift shop was duly visited, in addition to the other shops on the main street and we all managed to snag a memento or two to add to the event swag bag/backpack

The next day we courageously descended into Carlsbad Caverns via the natural entrance, a hike of 1 1/4 miles to go down 750 feet into the Big Room which is another stroll of 1 mile. We needed to use our inside cave voices and were actually successful. We ended the day at the Pecos Flume, where the Pecos River actually crosses over itself, except there wasn’t any water in the flume.

Our final day had us walking the streets of Artesia looking at the bronze sculptures that depict the history of this oil and ranching city. Trip mileage for this event varied, between 1100 and almost 1400 miles, depending on where we call home, but they were all fun miles. And delicious as we enjoyed a variety of cuisines, New Mexican, Chinese buffet heavy on shrimp and barbecue (sadly no pig on the sign).

Last Saturday of the Month Breakfast was at Sunny Daze where the tropical decor helped warm up the cold and snowy days from earlier in the week. We had a large turnout, the majority of whom then hit the interstate to Maricopa to the Dwarf Car Museum. Ernie Adams was recently profiled in AAA Highroads magazine and this guy is incredible. He builds dwarf cars, the forerunner of the Legends racing cars, which are 5/8 scale classic cars. These cars are all hand built, even the dies for the parts are made by hand because of their smaller size. The museum consists of the garage where the current projects are being constructed, a small showroom area where these lovely little beauties are displayed and the outside “parts department” and “sculpture garden”.
