MAC experts?

Any fix for a slow server? I tried changing the DNS to 4.2.2.2 which I heard about on some forums, but it did nothing.
Like literally.
I changed it and hit apply and nothing happened at all.

I see the heading didn't leave out the NON-EXPERTS.
As far as what server, it's the one that comes with the G4 800 Mhz.

I'm guessing accessing the server over the network. the DNS won't change that unless your trying to access it using a name like server01 instead of an IP. Is accessing other computer's slow? if so it is most likely the network bandwith being degraded by something, if not then it's the server, put a bandwith meter on it and see if there's traffic going on when there shouldn't be.

I am assuming that your talking about the internal network being slow, not the server accessing the internet.

I guess I'm not clear on what 'the server' is.

Well 'the server' is his apple g4 server, which i'm assuming is in a work envionment. I was asking if it was other computers accessing the server or the server accessing the internet that was the problem.

I think you are making a bunch of assumptions.

I think Dee can answer for herself.

Have you tried virus and spyware scans, i'm afraid I don't know much about apples computers, have you tried another computer hooked up to the internet connection?

If you want a free, faster, more reliable and secure DNS, use OpenDNS.com

All you have to do is change your DNS entries to:

208.67.222.222
and
208.67.220.220

and if you sign up with a free account, you can also block unwanted 'stuff'.

Every computer should be using the OpenDNS servers.

As for your question, I'm not sure I understand, either. Is your home computer a server? Or is your home computer a G4?
