Thinking of a new car!

Postby GOTCURVES » Mon Mar 03, 2008 8:39 pm

OK guys don't beat me up too bad but I want some opinions. The wife needs a new car...right, well she really wants a MINI Crossman (Mini's version of an AWD rally car) but she can't wait till 2010. :( So I found this 04' WRX with 36k miles in tip top shape. I don't know much about these cars so I thought someone here would know. I've tapped the WRX forums but like here they could be bias to the car. So please let me know (if you have any info on it) what to watch for and if I should avoid it.

Thank you in advance

Clinton

Well I'm still looking for an AWD sedan. Unless things change and the dealer drops thier price the deal is off. They are asking 19.9K for it and from what I asked on a WRX forum NO ONE whould spend that amount of money on it. They all pretty much said in excelent condition it's worth about 15.5-16k. So I have a delima the wife's car has been parked for about 3 months now, it needs a new power steering hose, alternator, battery, timming belt and very soon auto transmission. The cost of repairs (if done by me except for the tranny) is about 3K which I don't have. If I were to come up with the 3K and fix it up the car, in excelent condition (which it would not be far from that) blue book value is $1,800. Would we get 3k worth of use out of it, probably and then some, but how much more money would we have to put into it after these repairs is unknown. BTW Dee I'm never getting rid of Precious just need to get Gina something to drive till the 2010 Crossman. BTW Dan the WRX was a temp car anyway my son really wants one but is not ready to buy and was willing to buy it off us in 2010. Besides it would be cool to see how I would do in a competetive car like a WRX is STX.

The 2008 edition of the Best and Worst Cars from Consumer Reports is on book store shelves now and they recommend the 04 WRX as a used car purchase in the $12-14k range.

The only black mark it got on the 04 was paint/trim. Everything else was well above average.

But it is ugly...

It's actually quite fun though. Had one as a loaner when I had a Civic. It's a fun way to drive stick.

Yeah, yeah, and the "three-speed on the tree", column shift was fun for about an hour too... then you thought, "Who the hell designed this and thought it was a good idea?" hehe...

Everyone SHOULD be talking about the STi. STi's are dope cars. WRX's are not...lol. I would trade the BMW in a heartbeat if I could do it straight across. My buddies have 650HP ones....

Making Justin go any faster is ugly as well. I like him where I can keep an eye on him. Preferably way behind me.

But yeah, if you're looking for a performance vehicle then go for it! If it's just a cheap extra car, the fit is go.
