DMC - AMVIV (Las Vegas) March 25th-28th, 2010

Postby danjmcs » Mon Dec 21, 2009 7:37 am

** 3/8/10 - Only a few weeks away! - Update from Agro below.

It's time to start seriously considering 2010 AMVIV dates into your calendar, and hotel rooms/block rates are in place and open for reservations.

According to a post on NAM from the President of the Sin City Mini Club, as of 12/16, they only had approximately 17 rooms left in the block of rooms at the host hotel.

Below is the latest AMVIV email list communication from the organizers of the event and contains information on how/where to book your rooms.
Registration for the event itself is OPEN! http://www.amviv.com/reg.htm

If you are planning to go, please post here in this thread and as we get closer to the dates in March we'll put together our usual caravans up to Vegas!

Check out all the latest details on the event at www.amviv.com

There was previous discusion about the move of the host hotel in the General Board area, which can still be viewed here:

3/8/10 Update:
Subject: [AMVIV] AMVIV is just a few weeks away now!

Hi everyone. I guess I should apologize for not sending much out recently, but time has been at a premium for me lately.

As I type this, AMVIV is only 17 days away. Wait, what?!? 17 days?!!?!? AHHHH!!! So much yet to do and so little time!! But don't worry, we'll be ready for you.

There are a few things I need to tell you about as the wait shrinks. In no particular order, here they are:

Aliante has had a few cancellations on the group rate, I heard this afternoon that there are about 10-15 rooms available. If you want one, try NOW and you might get one. The link is here but I just tried it & it didn't work. Hopefully, it'll be fixed 1st thing in the morning.

The Las Vegas SCCA chapter is putting on an autocross event at the Las Vegas Speedway on AMVIV Saturday. The speedway is only about 10 minutes from Aliante, so it will be MUCH more convenient than Pahrump was. Details are here, and they have a $25 coupon for 1st time autocrossers here. They would like it if you could preregister to speed up the checkin process, they aren't doing prepayments.

This year, once again, we will be having a new detailer on site to make your MINIs pretty and shiny, in case you don't want to bring your entire detailing kit with you, or if you're like me and can't find the time to keep your MINI as clean as you'd like to. The company is Paradise Mobile Detailing and they will be on the top floor of the parking garage next to the Vendor Village.

Thursday, March 25th, the full day run will be going to Calico Ghost Town near Barstow, California. We would really like any of the California people who may be going through Barstow on Thursday to try to meet us at Calico around 1pm for the 1st ever giant AMVIV photo op. Calico has a huge parking area that we're hoping to fill with MINIs in some pretty patterns for some cool pictures from above. The Sin City MINI Club did a trial run there in February with 16 MINIs are it turned out pretty good, we're hoping to improve with YOUR help.

As in past years, there will be an art/photography show during the Friday evening Meet The MINIacs Mixer", assuming anyone takes part. I have not yet received ANY expressions of interest in being part of the show, so if you fancy yourself a photographer, and I KNOW some of you are GREAT photographers, give me a yell so I know if we're going to have any art to display.

As we did last year, we are putting on a judged car show for charity. And just like last year, the proceeds will benefit S.A.F.E. House which is a charity to help battered women and kids. That's where the similarities to last year end, however.

This year, the car show will be onsite at Aliante Station, in the valet lot at the opposite end of the property from the parking garage where the Boot N Bonnet show takes place.

This year we will have 3 judges who are respected members of the MINI community and who know MINIs inside and out.

This year we have skipped the "cutesy" categories and have 6, much more traditional, categories. Best Cooper, Best Cooper S, Best Classic Mini, Best Convertible, Best Clubman and Best Of Show. If you have a Cooper S Clubman, you can choose if you want to enter it as a Clubby or an S, but not both. My thought is that you would want to enter the most restrictive category you can. You'll have less competition in the Clubman category than in the Cooper S category.

Entry fee will be $20 paid directly to the S.A.F.E. House volunteers who will be onsite, but your MINI MUST ALSO HAVE AN AMVIV 7 REGISTRATION NUMBER ON THE WINDSHIELD.

The cars will be open to the public for viewing for free, though obviously, donations to S.A.F.E. House will be gratefully accepted. Checkin for participants will start at 12:00pm on Saturday and the show will end at 4:00pm. The judges will be doing their thing from around 2:00pm to 3:30pm. The winners will be announced at the free "White Roof Radio LIVE" event in the Access Showroom at Aliante Station on Saturday evening from 6pm to 9pm. If you can't make it there for some reason and you hear that you won, come to the Sin City MINI Club booth on Sunday morning to collect your trophy.

Please note where the "Vendor Village" is located on the top floor of the garage and don't park in these reserved spaces unless you are a vendor. This year, the garage is MUCH bigger than Palace Station's garage, so there should be no problem with a couple of hundred MINIs being on top of the garage without taking the vendor spots, so please do the right thing from Tuesday on.

Another new thing this year is that Desert MINI, the only MINI dealership in the Las Vegas area, will be opening their sales, parts and service departments for extended hours during AMVIV. Sales will be open 9-9, Thursday through Saturday. Parts and Service will be open 7-6 Thursday and Friday, and 8-4 on Saturday.

Registrations have climbed slowly to 212 as of 7pm this evening. That's about where we were last year at this point, we always get a rush of last minute registrants. Now is the time, the last minute is fast approaching! Pre-registrations will close on the evening of Thursday, March 18th, so if you want to guarantee you get your size shirt, or if you want the shirt and hat combo (which saves you $5), or you want to have a cheap, hearty breakfast before heading home on Sunday, go ahead and register now.

I guess that's about it for now. Later this week, I'll send out my annual "what to bring to AMVIV" checklist email, and I'll include whatever important info I forgot to include in this email. I know there's something I forgot to tell you here, because there's ALWAYS something I forgot to tell you.

Anyway, see you in 2 1/2 weeks.
Andrew Agro Ross.

12/31/09 Update:
Hello everyone. I hope you all had a great Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Festivus/Break from work/Saturnalia/Winter (or Summer) Solstice and are planning for a better 2010 than 2009 was.

I apologize for opening AMVIV registration so late this year, but with the 2 1-year-olds in the house, plus my Mother visiting from Australia for all of December, it's been tough finding time to work on the computer to get everything done.

However, here is the official announcement: AMVIV7 registration is now open!!! Yay! Go to http://www.amviv.com/reg.htm to fill in your demographic info. After you hit submit, you will go to the shopping page where you can pay for your registration, breakfasts, shirts, hats and grille badges.

Many of you will remember that last year, we held an actual judged car show to benefit SAFE House on the Saturday afternoon. This year, we are doing something similar. We are again having a judged show, but it will be held AT Aliante Station instead of at SAFE House, and the judges will be "car people" and most likely "MINI people" rather than outsiders. We're not sure who the judges will be yet, but they will know MINIs. In addition, on the checkout page, you will see an option to make a $1 donation directly to SAFE House. If you want to do that, fantastic! We will pass the money collected directly to SAFE House and the Sin City MINI Club will pay the PayPal fees. If you want to donate more than $1, add a donation to your cart, then change the number of dollars on the shopping cart.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

This year, we are not having a Saturday night banquet. Watch your email for info on a White Roof radio sponsored function on Saturday evening, we're not sure of the details yet.

All the prize giveaways will be done at the Boot N Bonnet Show at Aliante Station on Saturday, you will have until Sunday morning to pick up your prizes from the Sin City MINI Club booth.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also need to announce the winner of the AMVIV7 shirt design contest. This year, the quality of entries was even higher than last year, and the decision of a winner took more than 1 vote from the committee. I am pleased to announce that Craig aka Cooperation is the winner for the 2nd year in a row. I really want to thank the other artists who entered this year, we saw some amazing artwork, maybe some of the designs will show up on Christmas cards or other shirts for sale at AMVIV?

Please check out the winning designs at http://www.amviv.com/design_contest.htm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am also announcing that Vendor Registration is now open too! If you are planning on attending AMVIV7 as a vendor, please go to http://www.amviv.com/reg_vend.htm and follow the directions. Also, please contact Mark Finn to make sure everyone is on the same page. Take note that the car show will be AT Aliante, so it won't be pulling people away from the Boot N Bonnet Show "Vendor Village".

If you want to make sure that your favorite vendor(s) are at AMVIV7, contact them and let them know you want to see them there. The MINI vendors are all business people. If they aren't going to make money over the weekend (or at the very least, break even), many of them can't afford to come. The only way they can work out if it makes sense to attend is if they get an idea of how much business they will do. So help them (and us) out and tell them if you want to buy from them at AMVIV.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

For right now, the schedule and events page is not up to date. We are doing 1 new run, plus all the other runs have changed a bit, if for no other reason than the new hotel location. I'll send out an update when I get those pages done.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's about it for now, though I'm sure I forgot something important and will have to send out another one of these within a couple of hours.
Have a Happy New Year and I'll see you all (hopefully) in March.

Yeah, they have a funky registration link that you have to use to access the later dates. This one below works now as does the one on www.amviv.com and is updated in the first post above:
You can book a room by phone at 1-877-477-SOAR (7627) and use group code S03MINI or Book Online with this link.

Reservations made!!
Be aware that all of the 1-king rooms are already booked. All that is left are 2-queen rooms, unless there are cancellations as the event gets closer.

Yeah, we made ours a bit ago and it was the same then too, so the King rooms went quick!

Well, that cements it. I'm not going this year. Just got the email from Agro that the host hotel is sold out already. What a poor decision to have the event so far away from the strip and not even have enough room for all event attendees.

Thanks anyways but I just can't support the event this year because of the decisions they've made.

Yeah, it'll be a different event feel this year, no question. But we're going anyway, and we'll voice our opinion on how it really feels from the event. Given the economy and I'm sure circumstances not all known to us, who knows what real options were available to the organizers. One complaint I've had with AMVIV is that it hasn't changed much the last two years, so maybe a different approach or try will yield better/different ideas and things for the future, we'll see.

We don't need much of an excuse to go to Vegas anyway, so going when there will be a bunch of other Mini owners there makes it an easy decision for us.

I'm not happy with the hotel selection either. We will go, but be staying on the strip, and run up to the AMVIV hotel to see the cars, and vendors a few times. The Palace Station was good because of the location, but we kind of outgrew the facilities.

I have school on Thursday night so I will be headed out on Friday morning, caravaning with Michelle (delys) and Bob (oldfart), and any others who want to join.

I'm booked at the Aliante in a 2-queen room, but so far, it's just me going. If anyone is on the fence about going and wants to split a room, send me a PM and let's discuss.
