DRP - Fun Run to Oak Creek Canyon - July 24th

Discuss upcoming and old DMC events

Postby Louie B. » Fri Jul 23, 2010 4:12 am

Just a quick note for those joining us on the Fun run this weekend.

There are forecasts for scattered showers, so make sure your windshield wipers are in good shape, and don't forget your rain coat just in case.
We should be in for a smooth run but it's always good to be prepared! Also, we still plan on a picnic lunch so be prepared for that w/ chairs, blankets etc.

For those on the fence about going, don't let a little chance of weather keep you from having a great time with great friends!! Come on out and join us!!

FYI, lots of road closures this weekend. The I-17 Closure says it ends at 2PM, so I dont believe it will impact the route back into town after the Fun Run up north on Saturday.

-------------------------------

Our friends at APS, ADOT and the City of Phoenix want you to please be advised that travel along Interstate 17 will be heavily restricted this weekend in order complete the final wire pulls for the APS Morgan to Pinnacle Peak 500/230-kV transmission line project. Because a helicopter is being used for a portion of this installation, these road closures are necessary to ensure the safety of the work crews, pedestrians and vehicles driving through the area.

WHEN:
Saturday, July 24th from 4 am to 2 pm
Sunday, July 25th from 4 am to 2 pm

WHAT: Restrictions & road closures include the following:

Another last minute thought...

I've had a couple people ask if they can bring their dogs and I see no reason why not... you will want to bring a leash but i think all of our stops are pretty dog friendly!

Such a GREAT day!!! A big :thumbs-up: to Louie for setting up this run, and also to Dan and Marilyn for producing the route map/flyer. It sure was humid out there, but the hour or so that my temp gauge said 73 made it all worth it.

Thanks to all who came out! And big thanks to all who helped out!! Michele, you're too kind, you know you helped w/ the design! (as did Mark)

Big thanks to Andrew for giving us who stayed at DQ the heads up on the 17 construction that allowed us to go through Cottonwood and have a smooth trip back.

What a great day and a great run. Many thanks to Louie. The drive with the whole gang as far as Sedona was just great. What fun!

Through Sedona was as expected on a weekend plus all those looking for a parking place just stopped all traffic. What was going on anyway? And paving I-17 on a Saturday? How about from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. only, like in other countries?

Minidad and I did some MINI-to-the Max driving after the construction. Amazing what it takes to get past the idiot left lane blockers that love to travel in packs. Then there was the travel trailer with a disintegrating tire in front of me. Amazing how a MINI can dodge a moving slalom. One of the reasons to never travel in a pack - no room to maneuver.

Thanks again to Louie and Dan.

Um yeah.... Chilimini and minidad... I was wondering:
a - what happened to you?
b - if you had a radar detector?

After the paving on the I-17 Andrew and I didn't see you the rest of the way!!!

Your dust tasted good.

And I thought I took off hitting ^$! a few times!!
